Amber Room
Once the bedroom of grand duke Gian Gastone (portrayed on the door), this room contains the Medici collection of objects made of amber, a fossil resin of plant origin found mainly in the lignite deposits formed from ancient coniferous forests along the Baltic coast.
The altars were collected by Maria Maddalena of Austria, wife of Cosimo II, both of whom were intensely religious. Other pieces in the room, mainly secular, belonged to Ferdinando II.
