Small Chapel
Cappellina
This small chapel was decorated by Michelangelo Cinganelli in the third decade of the 17th century. The two lateral windows sued to allow outside onlookers to follow the religious functions. On the altar to the left is the gilded silver Reliquary of the holy cross, attributed to a Parisian goldsmith after the design of Etienne Delaune (1555-1650). The piece, which once belonged to Cristina of Lorrain, framed a portrait within an oval crystal, but was transformed into a reliquary during the 17th century with the addition of the cross, symbols of the passion, cherubs, and its crown, the cupids, and the resurrected Christ.
