Biography of Ferdinando IV
Lorraine (or Hapsburg-Lorraine) Ferdinando di - Grand Duke pretender of Tuscany (Florence 1835 - Salsburg 1908). SOn of Leopoldo II and of Maria Antoinetta di Bourbone-Sicilia. He followed his father into exile in Gaeta (1848) and returned with him to Florence (1849). In 1859 he accompanied him to Vienna. He participated in the Battle of Salerino with the Austrian troops. After Leopoldo II's abdication, he assumed the title of Grand Duke of Tuscany (1859), taking the name Ferdinando IV. He hoped in vain for the support of Napoleon III in his attempt to regain the Tuscan throne.
