The Temperance Room
Sala della Temperanza
An attribution for the central panel on the ceiling, from the time of Ferdinando I, is often given to Passignano, though the name of Poccetti is sometimes mentioned.
This room is decorated with tapestries portraying the Stories of St. John the Baptist, based on frescoes by Andrea del Sarto in the Chiostro delle Scalze in Florence and woven by Pierre Levère in the 17th century. Savoy taste is recognizable in the beautifully carved and gilded consoles and in the divan with its elegantly curving back and arms, inspired by divans carved by Thomas Chippendale in the middle of the 18th century.
