The Berenice Room
Sala di Berenice
During the Medici period this room was a part of Cardinal Giovan Carlo's apartment and served as a "Gentlemen's Waiting Room", where his valet slept. This wing of the palace was extensively modified and redecorated at the beginning of the 19th century.
The new decorations were accomplished by a group of modern Neoclassical painters. This room was painted in 1820 by Giuseppe Bezzuoi (1784-1855). The center of the ceiling shows Tito abandoning Berenice (hence the name of the room). The lunettes show the Cardinal Virtues, while the entrance wall depicts Temperance, Justice, Strength, and Prudence.
