The Dawn Room
Sala de'Aurora
During Medici times this room, a part of Cardinal Giovan Carlo's apartment, was the doorman's quarters. All this wing of the palace was called the Volteranno Wing "Quartiere Volteranno." It was profoundly modified in the 19th century at the direction of both the French and the Lorenese.
The new decoration of the room was accomplished by a group of modern Neoclassical painters. Previously, it had been decorated by Gaspero Martellini (1785-1857), who depicted Dawn, surrounded by the Arts and Time, and a bust of Ferdinando III of Lorraine.
