The Room of the Ark
Sala dell'Arca
In the Medici period this room served as an Audience chamber for the grand duchess. It was completely renovated at the beginning of the 19th century.
The wall and ceiling decoration was accomplished in 1816 by the Milanese painter Luigi Ademollo, one of the protagonists of Neoclassical painting in Italy. The wall decoration shows the Procession of David and the Hebrews returning with the Ark of the Covenant. Visitors find themselves in the center of the grand procession. The subject is an obvious allusion to the happy return of the Lorenese after the fall of Napoleon (1813).
