The Footmen's Antechamber
Antecamera degli Staffier
This room was at the southern end of the 16th century loggia of the Palace that opened onto the courtyard. It gave access to the apartments of the grand duke. On the entrance side are two marble niches of Serravezza, with backgrounds made of bronze ropes, originally opened onto the vestibule. In these niches, over the course of the centuries, were different copies of statues. At present they contain a copy of a statue of a faun and panther, Roman copies of originals from the late Hellenistic period.
The pictorial decoration of the room was done in 1790 by Giuseppe Maria Terreni who worked that year on other parts of the palace under the direction of Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo of Lorraine.
