The Palace in 1946,
during the reign of Vittorio Emanuele III
Until 1946, Vittorio Emanuele, Count of Turin, kept apartments in the Southern Palace (Palazzo Meridiana in blue).
Apartments in the Winter Quarters (in red) had first been assigned to Amadeo, son of Emanuele Filiberto (Umberto I's brother) after his death in 1931. Amadeo's widow, the Duchess of Aosta, maintained them until just after World War II.
